BREAKING NEWS - PANASONIC AND BLU-RAY

Visitors to the show will also get what for many will be their first ever chance to examine the Blu-ray format thanks to a display and presentation by Panasonic in the Somerset Suite on the ground floor of the Renaissance Hotel. You'll be able to find out the ins and outs of the technology behind Blu-ray. It promises to be the defining format for high-definition music and video in the home and the Hi-Fi News Show is proud to host its official UK introduction.

THE DTS EXPERIENCE
In the Windsor Suite on the lower ground floor of the Renaissance Hotel you'll be able to sample the stunning seven-channel surround sound and AV experience from DTS. This is the first time the display has been seen in the UK and it allows you to watch and listen to some of the world's great music stars in glorious multi-channel format. Having seen this display at CES in Las Vegas earlier this year it truly is something to behold.

Hi-Fi News Show moves to one venue
In response to demand from the public and the hi-fi industry this year's show is under one roof in the Renaissance Hotel, Heathrow, London. Hi-Fi News Editor Steve Fairclough explained: 'We have a whole new organising team behind the show and it will be packed with great equipment, superb competitions, plus plenty of displays and demos to give your ears and eyes a treat'. Fairclough added: 'For over 20 years the Hi-Fi News Show has been the largest high-end show anywhere in the UK, if not Europe, but this year it will be better than ever with a wide variety of attractions that will make it a 'must-visit' event for any lover of hi-fi'.
Already many of the big names in high-end audio are making plans for what will be brought to and launched at the event with many pieces of equipment set to be shown for the first time anywhere in the world.

FANTASTIC LIVE MUSIC!
Although you'll be able to hear great sounds playing through dozens of the world's greatest hi-fi systems at the show the event will also play host to a number of great live performances.
Famous Irish singer Eleanor McEvoy will be performing at the Renaissance Hotel thanks to the kind sponsorship of Nordost. McEvoy - who has had her songs covered by the likes of Emmylou Harris, Phil Coulter and Mary Black - will be playing some of the material from her new album. Well this is your chance. We are lining up a number of the UK's biggest names in the hi-fi industry and we are going to put them in front of you. Steve Fairclough editor of Hi-fi news will be hosting the session.

Workshop

Michael Fremer and Ken Kessler will take you through the pitfalls of setting up a turntable. Graham Bank ,Karl-Heinz Fink will be demonstrating BMR and acoustic treatment that make a difference to your listening experience. Keith Harward and Martin Colloms will be demonstrating how we measure equipment you read about in the magazine. For example they will demonstrate how loudspeakers are measured, doing live far field and near-field measurement and explaining their insights and limitations.

PAUL MILLER
Join Paul Miller for an eyeball-popping dem of full-HD home cinema. Included is a comparison of upscaled 1080p DVD with true 1080p content delivered from HD-DVD via the latest full-HD SIM2 projector. Paul will also be showcasing Arcam's AV9 processor and digital amps from Rotel. A Q&A session will follow each dem.
Location: George 1.

KEN KESSELER AND
MICHAEL FREMER

Ken and Michael will do a freewheeling presentation, answering questions and playing the music they love. The less structured, they say, the more fun and rewarding it will be for all those involved.

KEITH HOWARD AND
MARTIN COLLOMS

Hi-Fi News Consultant Technical Editor Keith Howard and Technical Advisor Martin Colloms will show how MLSSA is used to measure a speaker's sensitivity, frequency response and cumulative spectral decay, so that the audience can see it in action, hear the test signal and view the results. They'll also show what other measurements can be made with MLSSA, including impedance modulus and phase, and off-axis responses using a turntable, and also explain the limitations of this measurement technique at low frequencies, and the various ways that these can be side-stepped (near-field measurement, ground plane measurement). Lastly they'll discuss the correlation between measurements and sound quality, and whether it's true that 'measurements are meaningless'.

DR. GRAHAM BANK
Fink Audio Consulting and Cotswold Sound Systems Ltd. will present a feasibility study of a two-way speaker utilising a
Balanced Mode Radiator (BMR) following an introduction to BMR technology by Dr. Bank in the Yorke Theatre at 12:00.
