Next Month: December 2009 issue

Our hi-fi experts are busy auditioning a host of exciting new products for our next issue, including Cabasse’s Baltic Evolution tri-axial ‘eyeball’ satellite speakers with accompanying Santorin 30 subwoofer, and brand new PA-20/PW-400 amplifiers from the rejuvenated Micromega company of Paris. Also on test is Linn Products’ latest ‘Retro’ LP12SE turntable, Grado’s wooden-bodied Reference Master 1 cartridge and a group of intriguing wireless headphones – to mention just a few of the products currently being auditioned.

Due to circumstances beyond our control our forthcoming feature on Michell Engineering has been slightly delayed. In the meantime, however, we’ve travelled to the delightful Gloucestershire countryside to visit ATC, the Acoustic Transducer Company that began making drive units for PA systems used by Supertramp, Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull (among others) before developing its famous soft-dome midrange unit and entering the world of hi-fi during the 1970s. Today ATC makes amplifiers as well as passive and active speakers, still entirely hand-made by skilled craftspeople in its workshops.
